Peirce, Seniors End Year on High Note with 21-9 Victory over Allegheny

Senior Shaun Peirce totaled 121 goals in his four years with the Scots.

Senior Shaun Peirce made his last game a memorable one with his third career eight-goal game to lead The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team to a 21-9 win over Allegheny College on Saturday.

Peirce's eight goals fell one shy of the school record as he posted the sixth eight-goal game in program history. He ends with 121 career goals for sixth all-time in program history.

Peirce was one of six seniors recognized before the game including Bryce DanovskisConnor ManganJack RedickShane Wallace and Ted Wells.

Meanwhile, a first-year made quite the impression as Jimmy Fisher went 25-of-32 in faceoffs and collected 21 groundballs, which is tied for sixth most in a Division III game this year.

Fisher's 116 groundballs this season are a new program record, surpassing Matt Pullara's 109 in 2010. Fisher's .642 (183-of-285) faceoff win percentage this season also set a new record, blowing past the old record holder of .589 set in 2003 from Eric Saulnier.

Wooster pulled away in the second quarter of Saturday's game, expanding a 3-2 first quarter lead to 10-5 at halftime. Wooster then outscored the Gators 7-2 in the third, where Peirce scored the first three goals of the half, before wrapping up with a 4-2 fourth.

Ben Byars and Vinny DiLeo each scored three goals, while Mangan and Ryan You added a pair. Wells, Henry McMahon and Shane Epstein-Petrullo each scored once.

DiLeo dished out five assists, while Redick added three and Ben Kennedy gave out two. Casey Steffen had a team-high four caused turnovers.

Adam Meyer (6-5) achieved the win in goal after making five saves in almost 50 minutes of action.

Wooster totaled 55 groundballs and succeeded in 23-of-27 clear attempts. The Scots also outshot Allegheny (2-6) 60-24.

Wooster ends the year at 6-5.
