Senior Salute: Grant Sorensen

Grant Sorensen Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Grant Sorensen, a psychology major from Seattle, Washington. Sorensen is a member of the men's lacrosse team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I loved the campus and the people. The team culture was something that really sold the school to me.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: It is a lot of really hard work, but it is worth all the effort. Roll Scots.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Living in Hider House my sophomore year with my friends was the highlight of my time here. That group of guys was incredible to live with and we created memories I will remember forever.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The support you have around you from your teammates to your coaches, the training staff, and the athletic administration. Everyone wants you to be as successful as you can be on and off the field.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I have lived in the Homework for Hoops program house for three years now. We volunteer with Anazao Community Partners, a social services and counseling organization. We hang out with kids from Wayne County, help them with school work, play games with them, mentor them, and build really great connections with them.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Aubrey Whitehead who is no longer here. He taught a class I took as a sophomore, and the work we did together in that class built the groundwork for my Independent Study conceptually and strengthened my writing abilities.

Q: Which other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Nate Huston the head athletic trainer has been a constant supporter, sounding board, and resource for me throughout my four years here. He is also my boss in the athletic training room and the athletic trainer for men's lacrosse.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My I.S. investigates the impact of the interpersonal player-coach relationship on student-athlete success athletically and academically at the collegiate level.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The team trip to Florida for spring break as a sophomore was awesome. We spent a day at the beach, and it was a great to spend time with the team before COVID inevitably ended the year.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Trust the process.
