Senior Salute - Adam Meyer

Adam Meyer Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Adam Meyer, a statistical and data sciences major from Centennial, Colorado. Meyer is a member of the men's lacrosse team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose The College of Wooster because of the small class sizes, which enables me to interact and build strong connections with professors. Additionally, I was really impressed with the prioritization of academic research with the senior Independent Study.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means having great character and class in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memory as a student at The College of Wooster is our spring break trip to Florida in 2022.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster is completing the same academic work as everyone else at a high level while having 6 a.m. lifts, 1-2 hours of film, and two-hour practices. It shows how strong the time management and perseverance skills our athletes have are.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: Besides playing lacrosse, I am the secretary for the WooData Club. We focus on helping those with an interest in data create resumes, find internships, connect with alumni, and learn more about data in the world around us.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: There are so many great professors at the College. The one who has made the greatest impact on me this year is Professor Christina Horr because of her help and encouragement with my I.S. project.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Nate Huston, our head athletic trainer, has impacted me in a positive way by keeping me healthy and functional enough to play lacrosse.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study investigates the fairness of deep learning algorithms used to track eye movements on a phone or computer screen.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I had the opportunity to work with Nextbite as a data analyst intern in 2022. At Nextbite, I analyzed menu pricing data and created data visualizations to present to senior managers.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: One piece of advice is to find more experiences and opportunities during the summers that are related to what I want to do after I graduate, so I could have made more connections. I would advise any student looking to be a statistical and data sciences major to get internships throughout every summer break.
