Record Winning Streak Ends as Scots Fall to Bishops

Will Fink DELAWARE – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team saw its record breaking 11-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday in an 11-7 defeat to Ohio Wesleyan University in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Wooster entered as only one of four Division III teams nationwide with an undefeated record. On Tuesday, the Scots fell behind early and never led against the Battling Bishops.

Ohio Wesleyan went up 2-0 before Will Fink put Wooster on the board. The Bishops then opened the second quarter scoring on a man up. Wooster then was able to tie the game at three with goals from Colton Beaudoin and Rory Zahren.

Ohio Wesleyan then changed the tide of the game with four unanswered goals. They entered halftime leading 5-3 and won the third quarter 3-1 to move ahead 8-4.

Offensively, Fink did his best to keep the Scots in it, scoring three second half goals. He cut the lead to 8-5 to open the fourth quarter but Ohio Wesleyan rallied for three straight goals that effectively put the game away with 3:47 remaining.

Zahren and Fink scored with under three minutes remaining, but the Scots essentially ran out of time.

The four goals for Fink are a new career-best for the sophomore. Vinny DiLeo and Austin Jourde collected assists for Wooster.

Paul Chandler made 11 saves for the Scots. His counterpart Nathan George made nine.

Wooster won 11-of-21 faceoffs. They were also 17-of-21 on clears.

Casey Steffen, DiLeo, Mason Poisson and Anderson Macdonald all had four ground balls. Steffen also caused seven turnovers.

Ohio Wesleyan stays undefeated in NCAC play moving to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Wooster is now 11-1 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC.

Next, Wooster will host Wabash College on Saturday at Wooster High School.
