Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Pat Hrabak, a political science major from Brunswick, Ohio. Hrabak is a member of the men's lacrosse team.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster for the great academics. I loved the campus, the atmosphere, and the ability to compete at a high level.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means putting the team first, coming together with 50 other guys to chase success, and to be the best versions of ourselves.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are the spring break trips to Colorado and Florida, beating Colorado College for the best start in program history, and living with my best friends.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is being within a couple miles of 50 of your best friends.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a three-year volunteer with Homework for Hoops. This is a service program where we spend time with local youth, help them with their academics, and play sports with them after they finish their homework.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Joseph Coll has been a great mentor for me during Independent Study, and I could not complete my I.S. without him.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Coach Eric Seideman and Coach Joseph Pille have really taken our program to the next level. They came in with a bunch of players they did not recruit and have embraced that to make us better people on and off the field. They really care about the team outside of lacrosse and will do so for years to come.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at whether anti-Muslim sentiment influences support for torture methods among white Americans. I am super interested in political violence and this topic is super persistent throughout time, which is why I wanted to study it.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Our spring break trips have been awesome. We went to Florida my sophomore year and Colorado my junior year, where we beat Colorado College. The spring break trips really let our team bond in numerous ways and they are very memorable. Some of my favorite memories happen on our spring break trips.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Soak everything in. I would tell myself that over the next four years, I will experience and get to know some incredible people and do some incredible things. Do not take any of it for granted. It is not every day you get to be with your best friends while getting a great education and playing lacrosse with them. It is truly special being a Fighting Scot, so be the best version of myself every day to honor the College, the team and those who came before me.
