WOOSTER, Ohio - For the second time in as many games, The
College of Wooster men's soccer team was on the short end of
a 1-0 decision, this time to No. 11 ranked Wittenberg University.
The visitors scored via a penalty kick just under eight minutes
into the second half, and hung on for the North Coast Athletic
Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial
Field.
For the Tigers, Brian Glenn drew a Wooster foul inside the box, and
calmly booted in the penalty shot, accounting for the game's
lone goal during a second half that witnessed Wittenberg (11-0-0,
2-0-0 NCAC) owning a 10-2 shot advantage, and a combined 20-5 bulge
for the match.
During that second stanza, the Fighting Scots (4-6-1, 1-2-0 NCAC)
nearly knotted the contest with just over 25 minutes left. Freshman
Erik Beuck received a pass inside the box, made a move to his
right, but his shot from 10 yards out sailed high.
On the other end of the field, goalkeeper Taylor Takacs produced
nine saves during the match to keep Wooster within striking
distance, including a pair of stops with just under 11 minutes to
go in the opening stanza on back-to-back shots by Matt Borland that
was stopped and rebounded directly to Shane Price, but Takacs
didn't allow either would-be scoring attempt past him.
Overall in the physical affair, a combined 39 fouls were whistled
and six yellow cards were handed out.
The Scots will look to end their three-game losing streak on
Wednesday when they travel to Oberlin College (7-5-0, 1-1-0 NCAC)
for a 7 p.m. match.
