The College of Wooster came up on the short end of a pair of
neutral-site men's soccer matches during the team's
season-opening weekend, as the Fighting Scots fell to Aurora
University 3-2 in overtime on Friday evening and to Heidelberg
College 3-1 Sunday afternoon. The games were played on the campus
of Oberlin College and both opponents were coming off winning
seasons.
Wooster (0-2) fell behind 2-0 versus Aurora, but clawed back to tie
it with a pair of tallies during the second half. Both came
courtesy of junior forward Scott Buckwald, with the first one being
assisted by senior Brenton Allen. It marked the fourth and fifth
goals of Buckwald's career. The Spartans converted on a
header midway through the first overtime to earn the win.
Sunday's contest saw the Scots jump out on top in the 10th
minute via a Karl Ruter goal. The junior handled a deep pass from
senior forward Nick Waychoff and sent it into the back of the net.
Heidelberg, though, would put together a three-goal flurry over a
4:14 time period late in the first, building a 3-1 cushion, and the
second half was scoreless.
Wooster will aim to get in the win column this Wednesday when it
hosts Marietta College (1-0) at 5 p.m.
