The College of Wooster men's soccer team made it three
wins in its last four outings on Wednesday, dropping host Muskingum
College by a 2-1 count in its final tune-up for North Coast
Athletic Conference play.
Wooster (3-3-1), which started the season 0-2-1 but now appears to
be coming together, scored first at Muskingum as sophomore Brian
Holmes booted through a Scott Buckwald assist in the 20th minute.
Holmes' second goal of the year was the lone tally for either
side during the first half.
In the second, the Muskies (1-6) tied things up on a strike by Ian
Stipes in the 61st minute, but it was Karl Ruter's goal with
about 11 minutes remaining in regulation that was the difference
maker. Ruter, the Fighting Scots' leading scorer now with 11
points, found the back of the net, following passes from Buckwald
and Aaron Oster-Beal. It marked the second game in a row Wooster
has produced the rare double-assist.
Freshman Taylor Takacs continued his solid play in goal, posting
four saves in the win while playing all 90 minutes for the
second-straight time. On the other side, Muskie 'keeper
Matthew Seas came up with three stops.
