WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's soccer team was
shutout for just the fourth time this season, as visiting Ohio
Wesleyan University prevailed in a North Coast Athletic Conference
match-up behind a second-half goal Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale
Memorial Field.
Ohio Wesleyan (12-4-0, 6-0-0 NCAC), ranked sixth in the Great
Lakes Region, scored its lone goal 10:12 into the second half when
Matt Bonfini sent a pass through the Wooster defense and connected
with Brian Greene. With Wooster goalkeeper Taylor Takacs coming out
to contest, Greene sent a shot over Takacs' outstretched hand for
the lone goal.
Takacs helped Wooster (6-7-1, 3-3-0 NCAC) stay within striking
distance, as he registered four of his 10 saves in the first 45
minutes of action. He also registered a diving save with 5:35
remaining in the contest to keep the Scots down by just one.
Wooster's offense couldn't find the equalizer in the second, as it
was unable to send a shot toward the Battling Bishops' net. Ohio
Wesleyan's Richard Ott was forced to make just one save for the
match to preserve his shutout.
Statistically, the visitors outshot the Fighting Scots 19-2, and
held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Wooster will aim to get back to its winning ways this Wednesday
when it hosts Hiram College (10-4-0, 3-2-0 NCAC) at 4 p.m.
