Men's Soccer Has Two Garner all-NCAC Accolades

While The College of Wooster's men's soccer team had a disappointing season in 2009, there were some impressive individual accomplishments reached, highlighted by Karl Ruter and Taylor Takacs who were both made honorable mention selections on the all-North Coast Athletic Conference Team on Monday.

Ruter has been a staple in the Fighting Scots' midfield line during his career, and he did not disappoint in his senior campaign, leading the squad in scoring with 16 points (six goals, four assists). It marked the fourth-consecutive season that Ruter had tallied double-digits in points and scored at least five goals. The senior forward knocked in two game-winning goals, including a score on a free kick with 15 seconds remaining in the Scots' 2-1 win over Allegheny College. He also recorded the first Wooster hat trick since 2004 in a 4-1 win against Malone University.

For his career, Ruter compiled 52 points (21 goals and 10 assists), which is just shy of ranking among the top-10 in school history. While this was his first time being selected to the all-conference team, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team as a junior.

Takacs followed up his impressive freshman season with another noteworthy effort, leading the NCAC in saves (97) despite missing one game to injury. His 6.47 saves per game were a league-best, and his .776 save percentage ranked fifth among his conference counterparts. Takacs produced shutouts against Otterbein College and Marietta College during the season, and made a career-high 11 saves at Ohio Wesleyan University. Last season the sophomore 'keeper was named to the all-conference second-team and earned NCAC Newcomer of the Year accolades.
