Woosters Uncharacteristic Defensive Effort Results in Loss at Defiance
The College of Wooster fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Saturday afternoon, as host Defiance College's offense struck four times for a 4-1 win in non-conference men's soccer action.
Wooster (2-1-1), which had not given up four goals in a game since the 2006 season finale, faced a 1-0 deficit less than five minutes into the action when Defiance (2-1) converted an attempt from the top of the box. The Yellow Jackets scored again in the 14th minute, while the Fighting Scots were credited for just two total shots the whole first half.
Defiance expanded its lead to 3-0 about 20 minutes into the second and then Scott Buckwald tried to make things interesting with his third goal of the season, as Wooster trimmed the deficit to two during the 75th minute. However, the Yellow Jackets netted a game-clinching score just 32 seconds later.
On Wednesday, the Scots will look to start a new unbeaten streak when they welcome Muskingum College (2-2) to Carl Dale Memorial Field at 5 p.m.
