Scots Unable to Extend Game After Battling Back Again

George Skelly

For the second match in a row, The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell in an early 2-0 hole, then battled back with an opportunity to tie in the late going, only to succumb 2-1, this time at Heidelberg University Friday in Tiffin, Ohio.

Down by one during the 90th minute, Wooster (0-3) earned a corner kick, but it was not to be as Heidelberg (1-0) managed to clear the ball out and secure a hard-fought victory.

The Student Princes scored twice just 12:23 into the game, catching a break on the first one when it deflected off the post and into the netting.

Less than 12 minutes later, the Fighting Scots were celebrating a George Skelly goal as the senior ripped a shot from outside the box into the upper left corner. It was Skelly's first score this year after a three-goal season in 2012.

That would be all of the scoring as the teams combined for 17 shots, including just six in the second half. For Wooster, senior Aaron McKee made his fifth career start in goal and recorded four saves, headlined by a diving stop off of a breakaway following the aforementioned corner kick.

The Scots are off from competition until Sunday, Sept. 15, when they will be at Earlham College (1-0).
