WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster continued its stretch of playing competitively with the top teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, but Kenyon College scored twice during a 10:16 spurt midway through the second half, to upend the Fighting Scots 2-0 in an otherwise closely-contested game on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

The Fighting Scots (2-7-1, 0-3-0 NCAC) had a chance to take a 1-0 lead about 20 minutes into the game, when George Skelly delivered a long pass to Noah Wagemann, who had a step or two on his defender, but Wagemann was fouled before he could get a shot off just outside the goal box. CJ Polak took the ensuing free kick, but it sailed bit high and Kenyon avoided the threat.

Kenyon nearly got on the scoreboard a bit later in the first half, as a right-to-left shot bounced off the far post and rolled dangerously close to the end line before goalkeeper Matthew Canter swallowed it up to keep the Lords at bay.

It was in the middle parts of the second half when Kenyon made its push, as it scored off a free kick, and about 10 minutes later on a cross inside the goal box to gain a 2-0 advantage.

The Scots produced a few more scoring chances down the stretch, including one from Wagemann, in which he was in a footrace down the left side of field with his defender, and booted a hard shot over the crossbar.

Wooster will look to get back in the win column when it hosts Oberlin College (9-1-2, 1-0-1) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
