WOOSTER, Ohio – An early scoring spurt from Oberlin College spelled the difference in The College of Wooster's 3-0 setback during North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night at John P. Papp Stadium.

Oberlin (11-1-2, 3-0-1 NCAC) actually converted on its first three scoring chances, all coming within the opening 8:06 and two off the foot of Nick Wertman.

Sandwiched in between the Yeomen's second and third goals, Philip Charnley of Wooster (2-8-1, 0-4-0 NCAC) nearly made it a 2-1 game, but his free kick in the eighth minute sailed just over the crossbar.

After Oberlin's initial flurry, the two teams wound up even in shots the rest of the way, 7-7. The Fighting Scots had a second good look during the 19th minute as George Skelly collected a pass on the left wing and fired on goal, forcing Yeomen 'keeper Brandt Rentel into a diving save.

The closest Oberlin came to scoring again was in the 50th minute, when its top goal scorer had an angle past the goalie, but the shot was cleared by defender Adam Hansell.

Wooster had a series of corner kicks during the second half, five in all. Matt Naticchia had a header on one that was just a bit high, and shortly after that, Charnley was denied by the post on a header after receiving a well-placed cross.

Next, the Scots will be at Denison University (9-2-2, 2-2-0 NCAC) on Saturday afternoon.
