The College of Wooster men's soccer team recorded its third-most shot attempts of the season (13), and nearly got on the scoreboard twice in the 81st-minute, but Denison University hung on to preserve its one-goal lead and edge out the Fighting Scots 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt at Granville, Ohio.

The Fighting Scots (2-9-1, 0-5-0 NCAC) had an opportunity to knot up the score with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, as a Big Red (10-2-2, 3-2-0 NCAC) miscue awarded them their first penalty kick of the season. Philip Charnley took the kick, but his shot was batted away by the goalkeeper, and then George Skelly blasted a rebound shot into the post, allowing Denison to escape unharmed.

Denison's goal came at 33:37, and was hard to defend, as the ball was crossed from the right to left, and then pushed back towards the middle of the field, where it was immediately met by the foot of Bob Casarona, who scored into the upper corner of the net.

Another solid Wooster scoring chance came shortly after Denison's goal, when Matt Naticchia rifled a shot that was save by the 'keeper.

Also noteworthy, Matt Parmelee recorded a game-high five shot attempts.

Matthew Canter and Aaron McKee each played a half in goal and made two saves apiece.

Wooster will host its final home game of the season Wednesday when Allegheny College (7-3-3, 2-1-1 NCAC) visits John P. Papp Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
