Wooster Stays Close to No. 2 Kenyon Deep Into Second Half

The College of Wooster men's soccer team was within striking distance of the No. 2 ranked team in NCAA Div. III up until the 85th minute when host Kenyon College slid in a second goal, as the Lords got past the Fighting Scots 2-0 in their North Coast Athletic Conference match-up Saturday at Gambier, Ohio.

Jeremiah Barnes of Kenyon (11-0, 3-0 NCAC) accounted for both goals, the first coming during the 12th minute. He received a pass from Cameron Scott, gathered himself in the box, and netted one from approximately 12 yards away.

Not long after, Wooster (3-7-1, 0-3-0 NCAC) went on the attack with both Matt Parmelee and Philip Charnley firing off shots. They were blocked, and it remained 1-0 through halftime.

The Scots' defense was up to the task for nearly the entire second 45 minutes. Goalie Daniel Quinn registered five of his seven saves of the game that half before Barnes struck again, connecting unassisted on a deep shot for the game-clinching goal.

The Scots' Matthew Kelly accounted for the final shot of the contest.

Wooster continues conference play at Oberlin College (4-5-2, 1-1-1 NCAC) on Wednesday night.
