The College of Wooster's Matt Parmelee connected on his third shot of the night to pull the visitors within one of Oberlin College, but the Yeomen hung on for the 2-1 North Coast Athletic Conference win in a men's soccer match Wednesday night at Oberlin, Ohio.

Parmelee, a sophomore, nearly gave Wooster (3-8-1, 0-4-0 NCAC) a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, but was denied by the post.

Instead the momentum shifted, as Oberlin (5-5-2, 2-1-1 NCAC) accounted for the first score during the 17th minute when Sam Weiss volleyed in a free kick opportunity. Later in the first half, the Yeomen converted a corner kick play into a goal by Timothy Williams, and thus a 2-0 advantage.

The Fighting Scots went on the offensive early in the second, and had it not been for a smothering save by Oberlin's 'keeper on an Aleksi Pelkonen shot, it would have been 2-1 earlier.

During the 75th minute, Wooster's attack eventually resulted in Parmelee's goal, as he controlled a long pass over the back line from Lucas Hunt and beat the goalie to the left. It was the third goal for Parmelee and Hunt's team-leading forth assist.

The Scots were unable to send the game to overtime, with Matt Ehrenburg's shot in the 85th minute being the closest opportunity.

In goal for Wooster, Daniel Quinn made seven stops, highlighted by two right before Parmelee's score, one being a diving save.

Next, the Scots host Denison University (5-6-1, 2-2-0 NCAC) on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
