WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster controlled possession for large stretches and had some quality looks on the offensive end, but Denison University scored a pair of difficult goals to get past the Fighting Scots 2-0 on Saturday evening in a North Coast Athletic Conference match-up at John P. Papp Stadium.

The Scots (3-9-1, 0-5 NCAC) nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, when CJ Polak delivered a well-placed free kick to the far left post, and Philip Charnley met the ball with a header that sailed just wide.

It appeared that the game would be scoreless entering the break, but Denison (6-6-1, 3-2 NCAC) tallied a goal off a corner kick at the 40:19 mark to go ahead by one. Mark Waterman sent the ball into the goal box, where Cameron Boone headed it to Evan Porter, and the latter headed it past the 'keeper.

Wooster produced two shots that needed saved in the second half, coming off the feet of Matt Parmelee and Polak, and had a 35-yard shot attempt from Matt Ehrenburg that went a bit wide of the net. Denison withstood the Scots' attempts at an equalizer, and netted an insurance goal at 74:25, when Corey Rickets scored on an impressive diving header that made it 2-0.

Daniel Quinn, making his third consecutive start in goal, made three saves in the setback.

Next, Wooster plays its final road game of the season, when it travels to Meadville, Pa. for a showdown with Allegheny College (4-8-2, 0-4-1 NCAC) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
