Alex Hopkins scored the second goal of his College of Wooster soccer career, but that highlight was not enough on a night when its opponent was remarkably accurate as Allegheny College connected five times on 15 shot attempts, adding up to a 5-1 decision in the North Coast Athletic Conference tilt Tuesday at Meadville, Pa.

Wooster (3-10-1, 0-6-0 NCAC) started out well, earning the game's first corner kick and Daniel Quinn making a save on a header attempt during the first six minutes, but the tide turned quickly.

In the seventh minute, Allegheny (5-8-2, 1-4-1 NCAC) opened the scoring with a point-blank shot, igniting a three-goal spurt over a 19:25 time period, with Cameron Olson accounting for the first goal and picking up an assist on the third.

Later in the half, Matt Ehrenburg passed the ball from midfield to Hopkins, a junior defender who got loose for a breakaway down the left side, and the latter converted the opportunity to pull the Fighting Scots within striking distance.

It appeared that it would be a manageable 3-1 deficit heading into halftime, but a late miscue by the Wooster defense resulted in an own goal during the 42nd minute and a three-goal deficit.

The Gators, who tacked on a single score in the second half, only held a 15-11 advantage in shots, but their accuracy was the difference.

The Scots will close the 2014 season with a three-match homestand, beginning this Saturday against rival Wittenberg University (5-9-1, 0-6-0 NCAC) at 4 p.m.
