The College of Wooster men's soccer team erupted for four goals, including three over a 6:23 stretch in the second half, to take a 4-1 win over Saint Vincent College in the second day of the Purple & Gold Classic in Defiance, Ohio.

First-year Austin Russell continued to provide a spark for the Wooster (1-1-1) offense. The Upper Arlington, Ohio native scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third in the match.

Russell staked the Fighting Scots to a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, off of a feed from junior Aleksi Pelkonen.

Saint Vincent's (0-2) Kevin Proctor netted the equalizer in the 67th minute before Wooster's strikers broke through.

First, sophomore Mouhamet Ndiaye set up first-year Abdoul-Ahad Sene in the 78th minute for the go-ahead goal. Russell netted his second tally of the afternoon just over four minutes later off the feed from junior Zachary Mastrich. Junior Matthew Kelly pushed the Scots' edge to three knocking in a goal off a pass from Russell in the 84th minute.

The Scots controlled the pace all match with a 22-3 edge on shots. Saint Vincent's biggest non-scoring threat came in the 24th minute when the Wooster was able to ward off three corn kickers while only allowing one shot.

Jon White had a busy afternoon for the Bearcats with nine saves while sophomore Scot Stacho picked up the win in goal for Wooster.

The four goals are the most by the College since the 2014 season opener, when Wooster topped Bethany College (W.Va.) 4-1.

Wooster remains on the road for a 4 p.m. match at Muskingum University (0-1) on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
