Muskingum University scored once early and once late while fending off 14 shots from The College of Wooster, adding up to a 2-0 decision for the hosts in a non-conference men's soccer match-up Wednesday afternoon at Muskie Field in New Concord, Ohio.

A slow start helped derail Wooster (1-2-1). Muskingum (2-1) fired four shots and earned two corner kicks within the opening six minutes, and the fourth attempt found its mark as Trent Newby scored unassisted.

The Fighting Scots settled in from there and outshot the Muskies 8-7 during the remainder of the opening half, but they were unable to capitalize on any scoring chances.

The second half was also evenly played, as each team was credited with six shots, and for a time, it seemed the final would be 1-0. Muskingum, though, added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute.

Statistically for Wooster, Austin Russell accounted for three of the team's 14 shots and goalkeeper Scot Stacho made five saves.

The Scots will be at home this weekend for two games, first taking on Marietta College (0-2) on Saturday, with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
