Matt Ehrenburg scored his first goal of the season right before halftime to pull The College of Wooster within 2-1 of Hiram College, but the Fighting Scots were unable to generate much offense during the second as they dropped Saturday night's North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer opener 3-1 at Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.

While Wooster (2-7-1, 0-1-0 NCAC) competed gamely throughout, it may have been done in by allowing two goals just 2:12 apart in the early going. Quinn Galecki of Hiram (5-2-2, 1-0-0 NCAC) found an opening inside the left post during the 12th minute, and John Pretzlav headed in a chipped ball from Richie Webb in the 14th minute.

For the rest of the first half, the Scots owned a 4-3 shot advantage and one found the back of the net. Taking a free kick just outside of the box, Ehrenburg drove the ball home in the 41st minute, marking the senior defender's fifth career goal.

A high-pressure attack by the Terriers early in the second stanza yielded their third tally, this time Webb connecting on a cross during the 58th minute for their second two-goal cushion.

Wooster has a full week to prep for its second conference contest, as it will welcome Oberlin College (6-3, 0-1 NCAC) to John P. Papp Stadium next Saturday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
