Quick Scores in Second Half Trip Up Wooster in Granville

 Kevin Beck

The College of Wooster men's soccer team could not overcome a pair of quick second-half goals, and would ultimately drop a 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference road tilt to Denison University on Tuesday evening in Granville, Ohio.

Wooster (2-11-2, 0-5-1 NCAC) started strong offensively recording the first four shot attempts of the game, but could not connect. One of the bigger chances occurred in the 15th minute when Kevin Beck's attempt off of Marco Sapien's corner kick was turned aside by Blake Schach.

In fact, the total shot attempts would be nearly even at the half, with Denison (10-2-2, 2-2-2 NCAC) holding a slim 6-5 edge.

The Big Red broke through for the match's first tally in the 48th minute when Jordan Williams buried a penalty kick. The chance was set up after a Denison header hit a Wooster defender's hand in the box.

Less than three minutes later Kennedy Kommor buried his first of two goals on the night, to push the host's edge to two. Kommor would chip in his sixth strike of the season in the 69th minute.

Denison finished with an 18-12 advantage on shots and an 8-6 edge on corners.

Daniel Quinn recorded four saves in goal for Wooster.

Of note, tonight marked the first contest for head coach Andy Zidron against his alma mater. Zidron played for Denison from 2001-04, and served as an assistant coach for a decade prior to taking the reins of the Wooster program this summer.

Wooster remains on the road with a 1 p.m. tilt at Wabash College (10-3-2, 2-2-2 NCAC) on Saturday.
