A relatively even affair for The College of Wooster's men's soccer team tipped the other way as the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders came away with a 1-0 home victory this evening at Mount Union Stadium.
Wooster (1-1-1) played a level game throughout the majority of the match. Both squads managed five shots on the day while Mount Union (2-2-0) earned five corner kicks compared to the Scots' two.
The difference maker came in the 57th minute as Mount Union's Stephen Dages delivered a ball to Stephen Dages, who sent it past Wooster goalkeeper Scot Stacho for the game-winning goal.
Strong scoring chances failed to materialize after that, as Wooster's only second-half shot on goal came on an attempt from first-year midfielder Connor Hawkins in the 83rd minute.
The ball remained between the 18-yard-boxes for a majority of the match as both teams' midfields became entrenched in a battle for possession.
Stacho finished the game with three saves.
The Scots return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10 against Olivet at the Adidas Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
