Scots Fall 1-0 to Washington and Lee at Adidas Invitational

Scot Stacho

The College of Wooster men's soccer team battled closely against a formidable opponent in Washington and Lee University, ultimately falling 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in their final game of the Adidas Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

A scoreless first half played advantage towards Wooster (2-2-1) as they attempted to slow down a Washington and Lee team that ranked near the top-25 in the NCAA Div. III men's soccer preseason rankings and advanced to the second round of the 2015 NCAA tournament.

With the start of the second half, the Generals (4-1-0) applied pressure early, not allowing Wooster any time for comfort or possession.

The high-intensity tactic pulled through for Washington and Lee after a missed defensive clearance by Wooster presented Will Hamyrka with an open header as he finished for the game-winning goal.

Wooster first-year Max Rochester led the team in shots with five, followed by senior Kieffer Hessler and Austin Russell who both had one.

Wooster goalkeeper Scot Stacho made five saves on the night, while Washington and Lee recorded 15 total shots, six of them coming on frame.

The Scots resume action on Wednesday as they travel to take on Marietta College (2-2-1) at 4:30 p.m.
