Wooster Falls to Allegheny in Final Road Match of the Season

Max Rochester

Allegheny College rode a pair of goals in each half en route to a 4-0 shutout over The College of Wooster men's soccer team on a cold and rainy Tuesday evening at Frank Fuhrer Field in Meadville, Pa.

Nick Dias converted from close range in the 13th minute off a long throw-in from Liam McNamee to open the scoring for the Gators (5-10-2, 3-5-0 North Coast Athletic Conference).

Promising offensive opportunities presented themselves for the Fighting Scots (4-12-1, 1-7-0 NCAC) beginning midway through the first half as first-year Max Rochester nearly tucked in a far-post curling shot in the 20th minute off a smooth layoff from senior Kieffer Hessler, but the shot cruised just over the crossbar.

Wooster's best opportunity came in the 21st minute as the Scots earned a penalty kick after an Allegheny handball in the box.

Rochester, who stepped up to the marker for his second try of the season, struck it low and to the left with power. Allegheny 'keeper Chris DeNelle dove correctly and managed to get a hand to it as the ball clanged off the post and jettisoned into the air and away from danger.

Isaac Miller made it a 2-0 Gators' advantage after a corner from Bryce Evans found McNamee in the box, who laid it off to Miller for the put-away from up close.

Sophomore Austin Russell put a quality free kick on frame in the 34th minute after an Allegheny foul outside the box, but DeNelle did well to make a lunging catch-save to not give up a rebound opportunity.

The Gators matched their opening half result with a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes, as Tolossa Hassan managed to get around Wooster 'keeper Will Collis on a 50-50 ball in 51st minute, while Ezra Pasackow closed the game with an 86th minute tally to cap the score at 4-0.

Allegheny maintained a 16-12 advantage in shots while edging out the Scots in corners, 6-5.

Rochester, Russell, and sophomore defender Ousmane Sy all tallied shots on goal for Wooster. Rochester ended the contest with a game-high five shots.

Collis finished with three saves on the day.

The Scots return to Carl Dale Field on Saturday for their final match of the season as they get set to host rival Wittenberg University (3-13-0, 0-8-0 NCAC) at 3:30 p.m. as part of "Senior Day".
