Overtime Loss Sends Scots to 3-3 on the Season

WOOSTER, Ohio – A last-second goal in regulation and a quick counter at the start of the second overtime period propelled Baldwin Wallace University to a 3-2 comeback victory over The College of Wooster men's soccer team on Thursday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

First-year Wilson Freiji goes up for a header in Wooster's 3-2 double overtime loss to Baldwin Wallace.

The Fighting Scots (3-3) went up 1-0 just before the close of the first half, as junior Andrew Klein found sophomore Paulo Nunes for a back-post header in the 44th minute.

With the start of the second half, Wooster doubled its advantage off the throw from sophomore Manny Burton, who managed to find classmate Max Rochester after a mistimed defensive clear. Rochester placed it up and away from near the six-yard-box for his first goal of the season.

From there the tables turned as BW's (2-4) offensive pressure intensified dramatically. In the final 10 minutes, the Yellow Jackets fired off 11 shots, six of which landed on frame in addition to a header off the crossbar.

Sophomore Will Collis kept the Scots in the thick of it throughout much of the offensive barrage and finished the game with eight saves as BW managed to outshoot Wooster, 24-13.

For the Yellow Jackets, the first tally came in the 84th minute when Bryce Posner put away a rolling through ball by Danny Ruple from 12 yards out.

With nine seconds remaining, BW struck again as Joey Geither put away a close-range shot in traffic off the corner from Timmy Jonas.

In the 93rd, Burton found himself with a quality header opportunity but pushed it wide as one of two Scot opportunities in extra time.

Less than a minute into the second overtime period, Ruple sunk the game-winner on a through-ball feed from teammate Michael Snowball. Of note, the win marked the Yellow Jackets' first victory over the Scots in 20 all-time match-ups.

Up next, Wooster travels to Richmond, Ind. to take on Earlham College on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the first of a two-game road stretch.
