Wooster Drops 2-0 Decision to Regionally-Ranked Lords

WOOSTER, Ohio – Two second-half goals less than five minutes apart lifted the Lords of Kenyon College to a 2-0 win over The College of Wooster men's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Junior Austin Russell takes on his defender during Wooster's game against Kenyon on Tuesday.

Similar to the scoring situation during the prior women's game, Kenyon (9-2-2, 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) tallied goals in the 55th and 59th minutes. The Lords arrived at campus as the fourth-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region and received votes in the national poll.

During the opening 45 minutes, the Lords held a 10-4 shot advantage. For Wooster (6-7, 1-3 NCAC), three of the team's four attempts came via header, with one landing on frame.

Sophomore Paulo Nunes found himself with a solid opportunity to take the lead in the 15th minute but flicked the incoming cross just wide. Next, junior Alex Montalbano was inches from making it a 1-0 game in the 25th minute before witnessing his header graze over the left side of the crossbar.

Sophomore Will Yakubik rounded out the Fighting Scots' first-half attempts with a header on target in the 41st minute, which was ultimately corralled by the Lords' Ian McInturf, who finished with two saves on the day.

In the second half, Henry Myers opened the scoring in the 55th minute with a far-post tap-in off the assisting header from Woo Jeon. Less than five minutes later, John Penas ripped a left-footed shot across goal into the right upper-90 for the insurance tally.

Sophomore 'keeper Will Collis ended the game with six saves while Kenyon maintained the edge in corners 5-2.

Up next, Wooster hosts Oberlin College (4-6-2, 0-3 NCAC) on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. at Carl Dale Memorial Field.
