Hiram College's Keanu Shelton matched sophomore Manny Burton's first-half penalty conversion before tucking away the game-winner in the final two minutes to propel the Terriers to a 2-1 comeback victory over the Fighting Scots on Tuesday night at Hiram, Ohio.
Burton opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his fourth tally of the season. With 11 points on four goals and three assists, Burton is the first Scot since 2015 to surpass 10 points on the year with three games still remaining.
Wooster (6-9, 1-5 North Coast Athletic Conference) nearly made it 2-0 in the 38th minute with back-to-back shots on goal from first-year BJ Tally and sophomore Paulo Nunes.
Hiram (5-9, 3-3 NCAC) maintained a 7-4 shot advantage after the opening 45 minutes as Wooster headed into the break leading 1-0.
In the second half, first-year Max Hill found himself with two solid scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes, one which drifted wide while the other landed on frame.
Hiram managed five shots in the second half compared to Wooster's six and eventually equalized in the 77th minute, as Giovanni Meza delivered a bouncing cross from the right end line to a streaking Shelton, who tapped it in before doubling down with 2:04 remaining.
On the game-winning play, Shelton found himself in the right place at the right time after managing to get a foot on a loose ball waiting to be cleared from the six-yard box.
Tuesday's loss marked the fifth time this season an opponent has scored the game-winner within the final 10 minutes of regulation or in overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Will Collis finished with six saves.
Up next, Wooster travels to Denison University (6-6-2, 3-1-2 NCAC) on Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 3 p.m. match.
