Scots Fall 1-0 to Wabash in Season Finale

Manny Burton

The College of Wooster men's soccer team concluded the season with a 1-0 loss to Wabash College on Saturday afternoon at Fischer Field in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Cesar Martinez netted the game-winner for the Little Giants (10-5-1, 5-3-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) in the 41st minute.

Earlier in the half, sophomore Manny Burton put one on frame in the 25th minute, as Wabash goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich did well to make the save and push the ball wide for a Fighting Scots' corner.

In the second half, Burton recorded his second shot on goal, the only two for Wooster on the day.

Late efforts by junior Austin Russell and sophomore Max Rochester, the latter of whom returned after missing two weeks with a leg injury, proved dangerous but ultimately off target as the Scots (6-11-1, 1-7-1 NCAC) ended the season with a shutout decision to the Little Giants, who with the victory moved into third-place in the NCAC standings.

Sophomore goalkeeper Will Collis ended the game with two saves.

Burton ended the season as the Scots' leading goal scorer (4) and assist provider (4) after recording just one assist a season ago. Junior Andrew Klein, first Wilson Freiji, and Rochester each scored three goals on the year while Russell provided three assists, pushing his career total to seven.
