Wooster Wins Third Straight, Defeats Denison 1-0

WOOSTER, Ohio – A goal within the first five minutes was all The College of Wooster men's soccer team needed to knock off Denison University 1-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

For the Scots, they collected their third straight win as they improved to 7-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the NCAC. It is the first time since 2007 the men have reached the seven-win mark and the first time since 2004 they have collected a win against Denison.

And it was all decided in the fifth minute when Manny Burton assisted Andreas Xenofontos for his second goal of the year. Denison keeper Dylan Brown was drawn out, and Burton laid a pass on the right foot of Xenofontos for the score.

Shots were hard to come by in this one as both teams had four. Wooster's next best chance to score came midway into the second half as Evan Lewandowski had a shot go high from about 20 yards out.

Goalkeeper Will Collis made three saves for his seventh win of the year. Brown made two saves for the Big Red.

Each team took one corner kick.

The Scots have two games left on the schedule. They will travel to Allegheny College on Tuesday and will host Wabash College next Saturday.

The men currently sit sixth in the conference standings with 10 points. The Scots still have a chance to make the NCAC Tournament as the top four teams will get a spot.
