The College of Wooster gave Denison University a challenge at every spot in the lineup, but in the end, the regionally-ranked Big Red fended off the Fighting Scots for a 9-0 victory Thursday afternoon at Granville, Ohio.

The Scots (8-7) were competitive across the board against the ninth-ranked team in the region, including in doubles, where No. 1's Harrison Suttle and Jacob Pine and No. 2's Willy Nelson and John Schulz each made things interesting in 8-4 setbacks.

The closest singles match came at the sixth-spot, where Paul Thomas nearly forced a third set in a 6-3, 7-5 defeat. Pine's match at the fourth-spot almost went three sets as well, as he overcame a slow start to take his opponent deep into the second set, but came up short 6-0, 7-5.

Also noteworthy, Jack Buchan took five games at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-1), Suttle (6-2, 6-2) and Landon Moore (6-1, 6-3) each won four games at the second and third spots, respectively, and Nelson (6-2, 6-1) battled his way to three games at No. 1.

The Scots will again have a difficult opponent on Saturday, as they visit another team in the regional rankings, Allegheny College (9-4), in a North Coast Athletic Conference East match-up.
