The College of Wooster men's tennis team produced one of its biggest wins in recent memory, taking down archrival Wittenberg University for the first time in five years and doing so in relatively decisive fashion as the Fighting Scots won a pair of 8-3 doubles matches, three straight-setters in singles, plus one more by default for a 6-3 victory in Springfield, Ohio, on Thursday.

Wooster (9-9) turned the tables on Wittenberg (11-8), having lost to the Tigers 6-3 a season ago, by starting with a near sweep of the doubles matches. The Willy Nelson-John Schulz and Jack Buchan-Davis Elkins teams produced the previously mentioned 8-3 triumphs at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Harrison Suttle and Jacob Pine were barely tripped up in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4), at the top position.

Already leading 2-1, the Scots made quick work in the middle of the singles lineup. Landon Moore prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at the third position, Pine 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth spot, and Buchan 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, with Pine's being the fifth team point to clinch their first win over Wittenberg since April 19, 2009.

At first singles, Nelson won by virtue of a default. He had taken the first set 6-2 and was locked up in a close battle for the second (4-5) when his opponent retired. Paul Thomas dropped a rare decision while going three sets at No. 6 (6-7, 6-3, 8-10), or the final team score would have been even more definitive.

Wooster has one more chance to tune up for the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday when it travels to Heidelberg University (7-7).
