The College of Wooster men's tennis team opened up a 2-1 lead on NCAA Div. II Walsh University, but was unable to sustain that momentum during singles play as the Fighting Scots concluded their fall season by dropping a competitive 6-3 decision on Saturday afternoon at Canton, Ohio.

The second and third doubles teams of Willy Nelson-Jack Buchan and Harrison Suttle-Jacob Pine gave Wooster (1-1) the early advantage with 8-3 and 8-5 victories, respectively, and the Scots nearly made it a clean sweep with their No. 1 tandem suffering a tough 8-6 setback.

The early singles results evened the match at three, with Wooster's Milo Saurman notching a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 4 position and Walsh (5-1) taking the top two spots.

Pine had a one-set lead at No. 3 before his opponent came back (5-7, 6-2, 6-3) and the Cavaliers also pulled out close straight-set victories at the fifth and sixth positions.

For the Scots, it marks the end of a successful fall campaign under first-year coach Zachary Hasenyager as they split a pair of 6-3 matches in dual action while receiving a strong debut from freshman Titas Bera, who lived up to his No. 25 seeding at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships.
