There was no rust for The College of Wooster men's tennis team, despite having been off from formal competition since October, as the Fighting Scots kicked off the spring with a 7-2 victory over Otterbein University on Saturday afternoon inside the Scot Center.
Wooster (2-1) started with two quick wins in doubles action, as No. 2's Titas Bera and Milo Saurman and No. 3's Davis Elkins and Erik Lindberg each picked up 8-4 triumphs. Meanwhile, the No. 1 pairing of Jack Buchan and Harrison Suttle were involved in a highly-competitive match-up, that they eventually dropped 9-8 (7-4), which cut the Scots' lead to 2-1 heading into singles.
That's when Wooster pulled away, as it won five of six, including at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the lineup. Bera took down his opponent 6-3, 6-4 at the top of the order, and Suttle battled through two back-and-forth sets, before sweeping the third, resulting in a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-0 victory.
Other wins came at No. 4, 5, and 6, as Saurman (6-2, 6-1), Jacob Pine (6-0, 6-3), and Willy Nelson (6-4, 6-3) each won rather decisively at their respective spots.
Next up, the Scots will head to John Carroll University on Friday. The action starts at 6 p.m.
