Nationally-Ranked Big Red Shut Down Fighting Scots

Jack Buchan
Wooster's Jack Buchan lunges to return a shot during Monday afternoon's No. 1 doubles match.

The College of Wooster men's tennis team was more competitive than in recent years with Denison University, but ultimately the No. 33 ranked Big Red were still too much as they won out, prevailing 9-0 in a Monday match that was played during brisk conditions at D.J. Hard Memorial Courts in Wooster, Ohio.

Wooster (8-6) stayed within striking distance of scoring a team point during all three doubles matches. At the top of the lineup, Titas Bera and Jack Buchan were paired for just the third time this season, but pushed their opponents before succumbing 8-5. The combinations of Harrison Suttle-Willy Nelson and Davis Elkins-Erik Lindberg each got halfway to their goal in 8-4 setbacks at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Bera went back-and-forth with another regionally-ranked singles player, Grant Veltman of Denison (6-7), however, the senior got the better of the Fighting Scots' standout freshman 6-4, 6-3. One spot lower, Suttle lost by the identical score line at second singles.

Wooster has another home match scheduled for this Thursday against rival Wittenberg University (1-9) at 4 p.m.
