Wooster Wraps Up Busy Week at Oberlin Invitational

The College of Wooster men's tennis team concluded a busy first week of fall play at the Oberlin Invitational this past weekend. The Fighting Scots would go 10-14 in singles play and 5-7 in doubles in the un-scored tournament.

Sophomore Vilius Sulnis led the Scots on the weekend, going undefeated. He teamed with junior Davis Elkins to go 3-0 in doubles play. The duo topped an upperclassmen duo from Baldwin Wallace University 8-2 in the first round. They then beat a duo from John Carroll University 8-3 in the second round before topping a junior tandem from Baldwin Wallace 9-8 in the doubles finale.

In singles play, Sulnis defeated John Carroll's Nick Siciliano 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, Case Western Reserve University's Gabriel Murcia 6-2, 7-5 and John Carroll's Alex Guthrie 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Three other Scots picked up two wins in singles play.

Titas Bera opened with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Denison University's Jamie McDonald. He would follow with another win over the Big Red, this time taking down Kevin Brown 6-7, 6-1, 10-6.

Harrison Suttle continued his strong start to the season. He topped Oberlin College's Paul Farah 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of singles, CWRU's John Benedetto 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the second round, and would cap the weekend with a 7-6, 3-6, 10-3 triumph over Oberlin's Jeremy Lichtmacher.

Elkins rounded out the quartet of Scots with multiple singles wins. He rallied back in the first round of singles to beat Baldwin Wallace's Brian Carano 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. Elkins would end the weekend with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over John Carroll's Matt Dusky.

The men's tennis team returns to action at the ITA Regional Championships, held in St. Louis, Mo. from Sept. 25-28.
