The College of Wooster combined for 12 wins at the ITA Central Regional Tennis Championships, held over the weekend in St. Louis, Mo., as it closed out the competitive portion of its fall season.

Wooster's top player, sophomore Titas Bera, was rewarded the No. 9 seed for the 128-player singles tourney after ending last season ranked 20th in the region. However, he drew a difficult first-round match-up in the form of Washington University's Konrad Kozlowski as the latter was playing on his home courts. Kozlowski took advantage, edging Bera in a pair of 6-4 sets.

Harrison Suttle, the Fighting Scots' lone senior this year, produced a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win in the first round of the main draw, then battled the 32nd seed valiantly before being knocked out 7-5, 6-3. Junior Jack Buchan and freshman Kieran McTague were also part of the top draw in singles.

Bera and McTague both bounced back to perform well in the consolation bracket. Bera collected a pair of straight-set victories – 7-5, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3 – as did McTague by nearly identical scores – 6-3, 6-2 and 7-5, 6-1.

Vilius Sulnis excelled in the "B" singles draw, in which another 64 players were bracketed. The Wooster sophomore only yielded five games during a pair of wins, advancing to the Round of 16 via dominant 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-1 score lines.

In the main draw of the doubles competition, Bera and Buchan advanced into the Round of 32 by prevailing 8-3 over a team from Hope College. The duo then bowed out to the No. 14 seed (8-4).

In the "B" draw of the doubles bracket, Scot teams of McTague-Suttle and Davis Elkins-Sulnis both fared well, as each reached the quarterfinals. McTague and Suttle edged a pair from Wheaton (Ill.) College 8-6 in their opener, then cruised to an 8-1 triumph over Hope, and dropped a tough 9-7 decision in the quarters. Elkins and Sulnis earned a pair of hard-fought victories in their part of the bracket, dropping a team from North Central College 8-5 and getting past a Denison University pairing 8-6.

Wooster will now continue to prep for the bulk of its 2015-16 season, which occurs in the spring semester with competition picking up again in the month of February.
