Scots Win Another Closer Thriller, Pick Up Sweep in Home Tri-Match

 Jack Buchan
 Harrison Suttle

The College of Wooster men's tennis team continued to come through in the clutch with a 5-4 win over Earlham College, and later swept aside NAIA foe Huntington University 9-0 in a Saturday tri-match at the Scot Center in Wooster, Ohio.

Wooster (5-2) opened up a 2-1 advantage at the end of doubles against Earlham (2-4), prior to splitting the six singles matches.

Harrison Suttle and Jesse DeWitt evened up the team score at the No. 2 position with a competitive 8-4 win that was later matched by the third flight duo of Titas Bera and Kieran McTague.

In singles play, Jack Buchan cruised to a win, not dropping a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over the Quakers' Adarsh Singh.

The middle of the order came through for Wooster as well against Earlham. Davis Elkins only dropped five games during his 6-4, 6-1 win at the fourth position, with McTague later clinching the match by a 7-5, 6-3 count in the third flight.

In the night cap against the Foresters (4-11), Elkins and Buchan grinded out a 9-8 (7-4) win in a competitive match at No. 1 doubles. Suttle and Bera backed the Scots' No. 1 pairing up with an 8-0 sweep in the second position.

In singles play, three Scots dropped four of fewer games in their respective matches. Suttle led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 count in the fifth position. Elkins (6-0, 6-1) and McTague (6-0, 6-4) backed up the Scots' lone senior's play with their stellar matches against the Foresters.

Bera and Buchan also won their matches by scores of 7-5, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2 respectively.

Wooster won two points via default against Huntington due to the Foresters only having five players available for the match.

Next, Wooster heads to Orlando, Fla. where the Scots are slated to play eight matches between March 15-23.
