Titas Bera won all of his singles' matches and three doubles' matches to lead The College of Wooster men's tennis team over the final five matches of the Fighting Scots' spring trip at Orlando, Fla. Wooster topped The College of Saint Scholastica 7-2 on Sunday, but dropped their other four matches, including three against regionally-ranked opponents, two of which were by 5-4 scores.

Bera, the reining North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Week, easily topped regionally-ranked Alex Boomgarden from Carthage College 6-2, 6-0 to start the week.

However, Carthage swept singles' flights 2-4 to clinch the 5-4 match on Sunday. The Fighting Scots did not go down without a fight with Kieran McTague dropping a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) match at the third flight, and Harrison Suttle falling by a 7-5, 6-1 count at No. 4 singles.

Wooster's success against Carthage came from the bottom of the lineup as Jesse DeWitt rallied back for a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-6) win in the fifth position, while Michael Beatty posted a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) triumph out of the sixth spot.

Wooster's doubles' point came from the duo of Jack Buchan and McTague in the first flight by an 8-6 count.

The Scots' bounced right back in the nightcap against St. Scholastica, clinching the match prior to doubles' play.

Bera and Buchan staked the Scots' to a quick 2-0 lead dropping three games between the two matches. Suttle (3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6)) and DeWitt (1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8)) rallied from a set down, with DeWitt's match officially clinching the win for Wooster. The Scots also had a big point from Beatty (6-2, 6-2) at the sixth spot.

Wooster opened its double-dip on Tuesday with a 7-2 setback to regionally-ranked Grinnell College.

Bera was a part of both of the Scots' points against the Pioneers, first teaming with Suttle for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and then topping Cole Miller by a 6-3, 6-2 tally at No. 1 singles.

In the nightcap, NAIA Hastings College won three of the final four singles' matches to cap a 5-4 comeback.

Wooster had a strong start to the match with first Bera and Suttle, and later, Buchan and McTague grinding out 8-6 wins in doubles' play. Buchan added an impressive bounce-back during his 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) singles win, while Bera later won by a 7-5, 6-1 score to tie the team score at four.

Wooster was right there in its Florida finale with regionally-ranked Luther College, but could not cap a singles' comeback, falling by a 5-4 count on Wednesday evening.

Buchan had an impressive 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) win at the second flight that knotted up the team score at four, before Luther clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 decision out of the No. 6 position.

Wooster trailed 4-0 before mounting its comeback bid against Luther.

First, Bera put the Scots on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Then, Suttle added a 6-3, 6-4 win out of the fifth position. McTague added a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 prior to Buchan tying up the team score.

Wooster resumes the northern portion of its schedule with a 4:30 p.m. tilt at 35th-ranked Denison University (6-4) next week Wednesday.
