Scots Net Two Points in Doubles Against Nationally-Ranked Big Red

The College of Wooster men's tennis team impressed in doubles' play against No. 35 Denison University, winning a pair of points, but ultimately, the Big Red rebounded in singles for a 7-2 win on Wednesday afternoon at Granville, Ohio.

Of note, the two points were the first points won by Wooster in a match against a nationally-ranked North Coast Athletic Conference team since the Scots dropped an 8-1 match to then-No. 8 Kenyon College in 2009.

Jack Buchan and Davis Elkins headlined the stellar doubles' play turned in by the Fighting Scots (8-8), posting a convincing 8-3 win over Jackson O'Gorman-Bean and Kevin Brown, who entered the match as the ninth-ranked doubles' pairing in the Central Region.

Jesse DeWitt and Kieran McTague backed the Scots' top flight up with an 8-5 win out of the third position.

Later, McTague was right there with O'Gorman-Bean at No. 3 singles, especially in the second set, but the Big Red's senior eventually topped the Scots' first-year 6-2, 7-5.

Wooster's bottom of the lineup continued to be productive, but all three matches ultimately went the other way despite DeWitt, Elkins, and Harrison Suttle each winning at least five games.

Wooster remains on the road with a 4:30 p.m. tilt at Wittenberg University (5-8) on Friday.
