The College of Wooster nearly knocked off nationally-ranked Oberlin College on Saturday, but a 2-1 edge for the No. 40 Yeomen in doubles was enough as the split of the singles matches allowed them to eek past the Fighting Scots 5-4 in a North Coast Athletic Conference East Division match-up, moved indoors to the North Ridge Tennis Club in North Ridgeville, Ohio.

Unfortunately for Wooster (9-10, 0-1 NCAC East), it continued a trend of coming up just short having now lost 5-4 four times out of its last nine matches.

The Scots' Titas Bera and Harrison Suttle prevailed 8-5 at No. 2 doubles to even the team score at one early on, then Jack Buchan and Davis Elkins dropped a tough 8-6 decision atop the lineup, which gave Oberlin (12-6, 1-0 NCAC East) the momentum going into singles.

All six singles matches went straight sets, with Wooster winning at the Nos. 3-5 positions. Kieran McTague put together a decisive 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the third spot, followed by Elkins winning the closest match of the day via a 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) score line at four, and Suttle easing past his opponent 6-3, 6-4 at five.

The Scots' challenging schedule continues on Thursday, as 18th-ranked Kenyon College (4-9, 0-0 NCAC East) visits Wooster for a 4:30 p.m. match.
