Scots Push Nationally-Ranked Lords Despite 9-0 Setback

The College of Wooster men's tennis team put forth a strong effort against 17th-ranked Kenyon College, but the visiting Lords ultimately took a 9-0 decision at the D.J. Hard Memorial Courts in Wooster, Ohio on Thursday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots (9-11, 0-2 North Coast Athletic Conference East Division) really made things interesting in singles with Titas Bera and Davis Elkins each earning a set point.

Bera, playing at the top of Wooster's lineup was right there with Sam Geier, the region's top-ranked singles player throughout the match. Bera had a set point in the first frame before the match ultimately swung Kenyon's (7-9, 2-0 NCAC East) way by a 7-5, 6-4 count.

Elkins, playing out of the No. 4 position rallied back after dropping a 6-3 opening set to earn a set point in the second frame prior to the Lords' Nicolas Paolucci rebounding to take the set 7-5.

Earlier in the match, Wooster put up a valiant effort in doubles, winning a combined 10 games between the three matches.

The pairings of Elkins and Jack Buchan and Jesse DeWitt and Kieran McTague each won four games at the first and third flights respectively.

Also notable, Buchan won three games off of a regionally-ranked player in the second set of his singles match.

Next, Wooster travels to Allegheny College (5-10, 1-1 NCAC East) for a key conference match at 10 a.m. Saturday before heading to Cleveland to take on sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve University (15-6) at 5 p.m. later that day.
