The College of Wooster was tripped up by North Coast Athletic Conference East Division foe Allegheny College 5-4 in men's tennis action at Meadville, Pa., during a busy Saturday that also saw the Fighting Scots fall to No. 6 ranked Case Western Reserve University 9-0 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The day started with Wooster (9-13, 0-3 NCAC East) splitting the first two doubles matches that came off the court, with Jack Buchan and Davis Elkins prevailing decisively at the No. 1 position, 8-3. However, Allegheny (6-10, 2-1 NCAC East) won a critical 9-7 match at the second spot to take a 2-1 lead going into singles play.

The Scots quickly leveled the match when Buchan walked off a 6-2, 6-2 victor at No. 2 singles, and later, tied the team score again at three via Elkins's 6-1, 6-4 triumph at the fourth position.

The Gators, though, secured the next two points and the match, including a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 battle at the top flight where regionally-ranked Thomas Manning edged Wooster's Titas Bera.

Harrison Suttle closed it out with a three-set win (6-3, 1-6, 6-4) for the Scots at No. 4 singles.

Wooster then packed up and drove to Cleveland for a late afternoon match-up against one of the best teams in the country. Among the highlights for the Scots were a close 8-6 setback for Bera and Suttle at No. 2 doubles and a three-set loss for Jesse DeWitt at No. 5 singles (6-0, 4-6, 10-7).

Wooster will conclude the regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend, first taking on Wabash College (17-12) at D.J. Hard Memorial Courts Saturday at 10 a.m.
