Davis Elkins lifted The College of Wooster to a 5-4 win over Wabash College, No. 12 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Div. III Central Region rankings, as the Fighting Scots celebrated "Senior Day" and closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion on Saturday afternoon at D.J. Hard Memorial Tennis Courts in Wooster, Ohio.

With the match square at 4-4, Elkins and Kirill Ivashchenko were left to decide it at fourth singles. Elkins had fought back from losing the first set 6-4 by taking the second by the same score, but was down a break again in the third. When Ivashchenko attempted to serve it out at 5-4, Elkins got the break back and proceeded to win the last two games to give Wooster (10-14) its first win of the season against a regionally-ranked opponent in 11 chances.

Elkins also helped the Scots get off to a fast start, teaming with Jack Buchan as usual at the top of the doubles lineup, and they posted an impressive 8-6 victory over the region's sixth-ranked doubles team. Elkins and Buchan improved to 10-8 this spring, including 2-1 against regionally-ranked opponents, while Kieran McTague and Jesse DeWitt scored the first team point of the day with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3, as Wooster took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

A definitive 6-3, 6-3 decision for Titas Bera at No. 1 singles, followed by DeWitt's 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6 gave the Scots a 4-2 lead at the time. The remaining three matches went to third sets, and for a moment it appeared that Wooster would wind up on the short end of a 5-4 decision for a seventh time since March 20, but Elkins came through in the clutch, giving the team a boost as it heads into the postseason.

The NCAC Tournament bracket will be announced on Sunday, and action will take place next weekend on the campus of Denison University.
