Bera's Convincing Win at No. 1 Singles Headlines Wooster's 7-2 Setback to No. 34 Denison

First-year Nathan Devereux turned in an impressive three-set win out of the fifth-flight.

Junior Titas Bera picked up a key win at first singles while first-year Nathan Devereux turned in an impressive performance at the fifth flight to headline The College of Wooster's 7-2 setback against 34th-ranked Denison University on Wednesday at the D.J. Hard Tennis Courts in Wooster, Ohio.

Bera put Wooster (5-11) on the board with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win out of the first flight against Denison's (4-7) Kevin Brown. Later on, Devereux won his first set by an identical 6-1 tally, but dropped the second set 5-7 against the Big Red's Blake Burstein. Devereux quickly regrouped to take the third-set tiebreaker 11-9 for the Scots' second point.

In doubles play, Bera and senior Davis Elkins paired up for the first time in the top flight and were right there with Brown and Blake Burstein, but the Big Red's top flight ultimately prevailed 8-5. Further down the lineup, sophomore Jesse DeWitt and first-year Craig Deng won three games in the third flight.

DeWitt's gritty effort carried over to singles play where he won four games in the second set during his 6-0, 6-4 setback against Danish Siddiquie.

Notable, Wooster finished with two points against Denison for the second straight year with last year's match representing the first time the Scots scored a point against a nationally-ranked North Coast Athletic Conference program since then-No. 8 Kenyon College topped Wooster 8-1 in 2009.

Next, Wooster hosts Wittenberg University (8-3) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, with the match already shifted indoors to the Scot Center due to the anticipated weather forecast.
