Wooster Tripped Up by Blue Streaks as Scots Prepare for NCAC Tournament Next Weekend

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's tennis team fell 6-3 to regionally-ranked John Carroll University to conclude the regular season on Sunday afternoon at D.J. Hard Tennis Courts.

Junior Titas Bera and sophomore Jesse DeWitt racked up Wooster's (7-18, 1-3 North Coast Athletic Conference East Division) lone doubles point with an 8-5 victory at No. 2.

Sophomore Jesse DeWitt (pictured) and partner Titas Bera won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Seniors Jack Buchan and Davis Elkins, the winningest doubles pair in program history, reunited for one final match on Campus, but could not pull out the win as the duo fell 8-9 (6) at No. 1.

In singles, Bera, the 15th-ranked player in the ITA's Central Region, won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 over the 13th-ranked singles player in the region, while first-year Nathan Devereux proved victorious at No. 5 by the exact same score.

Despite the 6-3 scoreline, the match could have fallen either way. Crucial to the Blue Streaks' (10-6, 5-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) victory were three-set victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions.

In the third spot, Elkins came back from a set down with a 6-4 second-set win, before falling by that count in the decisive third set. At No. 4, DeWitt won the opener 6-4 but dropped the next two, 3-6 and 4-6.

Buchan (5-7, 3-6) and junior Andrew Long (0-6, 1-6) lost at the No. 2 and No. 6 position, respectively.

Up next, Wooster heads into NCAC Tournament action beginning Friday, April 28.
