Bera Rallies Back From 5-1 Third-Set Deficit, Wins 100th Career Match During Scots' Sunday Sweep in Wisconsin

Senior Titas Bera rallied back from a massive third-set hole, and first-year Jorrit de Rouw was unstoppable down the stretch during The College of Wooster men's tennis team's thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind win over Cathage College, and in the nightcap, the Fighting Scots eased past Concordia University Wisconsin 8-1 to wrap up Sunday's twin bill at Eastside Tennis & Fitness Club in Kenosha, Wis.

Wooster (3-1) found itself down 4-3 with two matches still in progress against Carthage (3-2). In fact, the Red Men were a game away from clinching the match as 2017 NCAA Div. III singles championships qualifier Herman Abban was up 5-1 in the third set against Bera before the Scots' veteran mounted his comeback by winning six straight games to take the match 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, and keep Wooster in the hunt for the win. Of note, Bera's highlight-reel day culminated with his 100th career win, and that came via a 7-5, 6-0 win over Concordia's (1-4) Nolan Rodemacher at first singles, a match that fittingly officially clinched the win for the Scots.

Once Bera's match versus Abban concluded, all eyes shifted to de Rouw at sixth singles, and the first-year didn't disappoint. After dropping the first set 6-7 (1), de Rouw found himself in a dog fight with the second set tied at two, but the first-year won 10 straight games to close out the match 6-2, 6-0.

First-year Joaquin Abos Amo evened the match up at two points each with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 win at fourth singles, and later, sophomore Nathan Devereux pulled the Scots level again with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph at third singles.

Wooster's other point came out of the second doubles flight where Bera and junior Jesse DeWitt earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory.

Against Concordia, Bera and DeWitt kept the senior's chance for his 100th career win intact with a 9-8 (2) win at the first flight. During the match, Bera and DeWitt saved five match points and broke twice with the Falcons serving for the set.

Devereux breezed through his singles match in the night cap as the sophomore posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, and he was quickly backed up by DeWitt's 6-3, 6-2 triumph out of the second flight.

Other noteworthy performances included first-year Saeed Husain's two wins, the first of which marked his first collegiate doubles win. In that match, the Karachi, Pakistan native teamed with Devereux for the 8-2 win at the third flight.

Next, Wooster hosts the University of Mount Union (2-0) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22.
