Wooster 1-2 Through Opening Half of Spring Break Trip

The College of Wooster men's tennis posted a 1-2 record through the opening half of its spring break trip, as the Fighting Scots posted a sweep over Curry College in between defeats to Dallas Baptist University and the University of Wis.-La Crosse on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Wooster's 6-3 loss to UW-La Crosse at the USTA National Campus on Wednesday night, senior Titas Bera and first-year Joaquin Abos Amo won at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to remain undefeated in dual matches at their respective flights. Bera defeated Kyle Woghan 6-1, 6-2, while Abos Amo came away with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Matt Lindsay.

In doubles play, Bera and partner Jesse DeWitt won 9-7 at No. 2.

Earlier in the day, the Scots (5-5) swept Curry, 9-0, dropping just one set on the match as all 10 Wooster players were involved in a singles or doubles victory.

The highlight of the match came at No. 3 singles, as first-year Jorrit de Rouw saved three match points and came back from 1-5 down in the second set to win 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) and seal Wooster's second sweep of the season.

On Tuesday, the Scots fell 7-2 to Dallas Baptist (9-1), with Bera winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Abos Amo taking it in straights, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4.
