de Rouw Clinches Wooster's First NCAC East Division Win with 5-4 Victory at Allegheny

First-year Jorrit de Rouw came through at No. 5 singles to clinch a 5-4 College of Wooster men's tennis victory over Allegheny College and earn the Fighting Scots their first North Coast Athletic Conference East Division victory of the spring on Saturday afternoon at Pennbriar Tennis Club in Erie, Pa.

The Scots (8-10, 1-2 NCAC East) took a 2-1 lead into singles play after respective 8-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Senior Titas Bera and junior Jesse DeWitt grabbed a point at the No. 1 spot, followed by sophomore Nathan Devereux and first-year Joaquin Abos Amo's point at No. 2.

Bera, the ninth-ranked singles player in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region poll, quickly made it a 3-1 Wooster advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The Gators (8-5, 0-1 NCAC East) garnered wins at No. 3 & 4 singles, including a three-set win against Devereux at No. 4, to level it at three-all.

Abos Amo gave the Scots the go-ahead lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 before de Rouw came off the court unblemished with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Up next, Wooster hosts Ohio Wesleyan University (13-6, 1-1 NCAC West) on Tuesday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m.
